LATEST INSIGHTS

Business Meeting

HELLO!

Welcome to the August edition of the CML Newsletter.  I know, it’s being released in September (not a very accurate description for a wordings specialist). It was put together in August, and I decided to defer the release until the Summer holiday was over. Where did the Summer go? I hope many of you got a decent break before the Autumn season gets going again.

Our aim with the CML Newsletters (the next one will be in Q1 2024) is not so much to tell you about Coverage Matters but mostly to give you something to think about and perhaps take away and use in your daily work as insurance or risk practitioners.  It’s a completely free service and a way in which I give something back to an industry that has been a big part of my life.

What you’ll find in here is opinion (albeit I hope relatively well informed) and not hard facts or legal advice. Your expert in-house resources or law firms will be the best places to go for these.

AND FINALLY… CML NEWS

CML had its first anniversary in July, and I have continued to be overwhelmed by the positive response it’s received.  It feels like I have picked up many new skills in a short period of time, the “top” five in no particular order being:

  1. How to design a website – with help from some talented friends.

  2. How to live stream a video – I plan to do this more in coming months, with training tips.

  3. How to complete a VAT return. This was the most painful of all the new skills!

  4. How machine learning may be able to contribute to insurance products.

  5. How to survive without caffeine (well most of the time anyway).

We have been getting busy with client assignments.  There seems to be a general upgrading of products going on out there. Maybe the new Consumer Duty is having an effect, or it’s the increased competitiveness in the market that is doing this.  Either way, it’s welcome.

We continue to support London and international based clients, established players and start-ups alike. We are working with insurers and brokers, all with the same aim: to help improve standards, innovation, and customer experience across the insurance industry. Since the April Newsletter I’ve been involved in designing some brand-new products – possibly the most exciting (and rewarding) aspect of a wordings service.

In Year 2 of CML I am forming plans to collaborate with other like- minded wordings specialists so we can deliver more of this valuable service to clients. The model seems to work.

Please see our website www.coveragematters.co.uk for a full run-down of our services or contact me by email ed.smerdon@coveragematters.co.uk

Lastly, THANK YOU for subscribing, and send me a note if you have any feedback – good or “constructive”. It will help improve future editions.

+++ I am having a couple of well-earned breaks in the Autumn and will not be available 14 – 22 September nor in the first two weeks of October.  I am then back in the saddle for the remainder of the year! +++
